More Mask Hypocrisy from the NFL
Don't Expect Any Masks at the Super Bowl
After all the masking hypocrisy at the NFC Championship Game, the powers that be have been spreading the word that we won’t be seeing similar maskless crowds at the Super Bowl, which will also be held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
I know a lot of folks are excited about the possibility of a big fight over masks at the Super Bowl, but I am here to tell you it won't happen because the talk over strict mask enforcement at the Super Bowl is just that, talk.
How do I know? Take a look at what happened Thursday night, at the NFL's annual award show the NFL Honors. It was held in the YouTube Theatre which is attached to SoFi Studium in Los Angeles, literally the same place the Super Bowl will be held on Sunday.
And guess what the masking policy was?
You've got to look pretty hard to find a mask... That is of course unless you look at the Youth Orchestra providing the music. The kids of course must be masked...
This is taking place in a state that has a mask mandate in effect through next Tuesday (2/15) and in a county which has Covid rules so bonkers that their health director has already announced the local mask mandate will remain in effect indefinitely. LA's mask mandate also includes the requirement that masks be worn on school grounds both indoors and outside! Yet these rules apparently don't apply for the specials, and the NFL is definitely a special.
And this is why I know there won't be any issues with masks at the Super Bowl. Sure, there will be signage posted everywhere, a KN95 placed on every seat, and mask "ambassadors" throughout the park encouraging masking. But you'll have to strain the see masks on the crowd, because unlike kids in school the NFL brings in cash and they get to choose which rules they follow.
The Covid rules in Los Angeles are terrible, so in a way I like seeing the NFL flout them. But the hypocrisy of giving celebs freedom while kids suffer is too much. This has some serious Hunger Games vibes. They would have been better off moving the Super Bowl to a state without these insane rules.
So to summarize, in Los Angeles adult celebrities can congregate indoors unmasked, but school children have to be masked outdoors during recess? If this fact makes you want to scream, "What the hell is going on?!", it just means you don't understand “Science”...
