What can schools buy with $210 billion?
A lot more than it would take to reopen, that's for sure...
With the passage of the latest “Covid Recovery Bill”, another 170 billion dollars was set aside for K-12 schools. Combined with what remains unspent from the previous Covid bills there’s over $210 billion available to our public schools.
$210 billion dollars "for schools to reopen" sounds like a lot of money! I was trying to wrap my head around just how much money this is and what it would actually mean for a given school or teacher. We know this money isn't actually needed for schools to open, so what could it be used for?
According to NCES there are roughly 3.4 million public school teachers in the US. Do the math and that means if you split the $210 billion evenly each teacher would get over $61 thousand dollars! That's in the range of a full year's teacher salary, for EVERY teacher in the country! It's also enough money to buy the highest priced Performance Model 3 TESLA and still have $5,000 left over for the kids in EVERY classroom in the US...
So after this bill passes, if you don't see a Tesla's worth of value added to your child's classroom, you ought to ask, "Where did the money go?"...
Anyway 0 and 2...
