Kyrie Irving's Peculiar Situation
Public Health Rules So Insane Only an MPH Could Understand Them...
On Monday at a post game press conference Brooklyn Nets Forward Kevin Durant made an impassioned plea to the mayor trying to get New York City to lift its vaccine mandate on workers in the city, so that teammate Kyrie Irving can again play at home games:
At first glance this seemed like so many other stories which demonstrate the absurdity of discriminatory vaccinate mandate policies. Well it's even more absurd than you'd might expect:
Kyrie Irving has refused to get vaccinated (he's had Covid and is healthier than 99.9% of the planet so there's no real need) which makes him ineligible to play at home games. You may recall that initially the Net's refused to let him play at all, but this winter after so many of their vaccinated players had to miss games due to being out with Covid cases, they allowed Kyrie to rejoin the team for road games outside New York City.
But while he can't play at home games that doesn't mean Kyrie can't be at the games. Here's a color coded map of where in the Barclays Center Kyrie is allowed:
Kyrie can't play on the court, but he's allowed to watch the games!
As of March 7th the city dropped all vaccination and testing requirements to attend games. In fact, Kyrie has actually sat in the seats to watch the rest of his mRNA compliant team members play:
This is crazy, right?! Well it gets even crazier...
Notice the asterisk in the chart above explaining that,
"*Other unvaccinated players can be here with no problems whatsoever."
Kyrie isn't the only unvaccinated player in the NBA, he's just the only one in this situation.
As a member of the Net's (a NYC based team) he falls under New York City's Workplace Vaccination Mandate so he's not allowed to work. On the other hand, if say the Orlando Magic are in town, their unvaccinated Forward, Jonathan Isaac, is free to participate since he plays for a Florida based team and is not subject to New York City's mandate.
At this point you are probably screaming to yourself, "Make it make sense!!"...
I would be happy to explain the reasoning behind this policy, but since you likely don't have a Master's Degree in Public Health, you're not gonna get it away...
Instead let’s have MPH Vinay Prasad explain to us just how absurd this policy is and how our Public Health Betters have destroyed their credibility by creating policies that lack any internal consistency.
The entire Public Health establishment needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the studs.
Anyway 0 and 2...
