It Would be a Real Shame if the "Maskless Mondays" Protest Caught on Statewide
Just in Time for Gavin's Court Date...
Today I learned about the "Maskless Mondays" protest taking place in El Dorado County right down the road from me at Ponderosa High School in Shingle Springs, CA.
Based on social media posts, it looks like this is the 2nd Monday in a row that a large number of students at the high school are going to school mask-less.
The school is reacting by isolating the protesting students in a single room away from the rest of the school students, in what the mask-less kids are referring to as "mask jail". They are detained in a single room all day long without instruction and told to work on assignments.
I can empathize with the school to some degree, since the decision to force masking of all students is out of their control. It's a statewide rule imposed by Gavin Newsom and the state Department of Public Health. Still, I think there must be a better way to respond than to throw the kids in detention.
Good on the kids! They must know by now that masks don’t work, and even if they did Covid poses no outsized risk to children and the adults have vaccines available.
I hope they keep this protest going on a weekly basis and I hope it grows. In fact, next Monday in particular would be a great day for these protests to go viral across the state. That's because Monday, November 8th marks the hearing date in San Diego Superior Court which could potentially overturn the statewide mandate:
It would be a real shame if the "#MasklessMonday" protest caught on statewide just in time for this hearing. Maybe we can all give this thing a signal boost! Spread the word to a local school student near you.
Anyway 0 and 2…
