It’s Spring Break for colleges and even during a pandemic that means lots of “Young and Stupid” college kids taking pilgrimages to the choice Spring Break party destination, such as South Padre Island in Texas. There’s a clip going around of a young college girl explaining her reason for venturing out during the pandemic by explaining, “If you’re trying to have a good time your should come no matter what.”
Here’s the clip:

It's hilarious and very easy to mock. That said, I feel like she is being unfairly portrayed, so I would like to offer a defense:
It certainly sounds absurd to say "Come NO MATTER What" during a pandemic, but it should be pointed out that Fauci, and our health department betters, had a master plan to end the pandemic which involved asked this girl, and every other healthy naive twenty something like her, to lock themselves inside their homes and waste over year of their lives to avoid a disease less risky to them than any of the venereal diseases they're already willing to take a chance with. That is absurd!
This girl thinks she's immune to Covid because the media has convinced us that if you step outside without a mask you're liable to catch Covid instantly. In reality, after a year only about a third of the country caught the virus, and this rate doesn't vary much between states regardless of restrictions. The chance of getting Covid from any given interaction is just extremely low.
So when this girl says, "If you're trying to have a good time, you should come no matter what," she is expressing a Risk Preference. A more nuanced expression might be, "If you want to live your life, you must accept some level of risk no matter what." This last year we have learned the painful lessons of trying to create a risk free world.
So I suggest we all take a lesson from "Come No Matter What" Girl and commit to applying a more balanced approach to risk in our lives for the rest of 2021 and beyond.
Anyway 0 and 2…
