Regarding Cal-Unicornia's insane updated masking order, requiring employers to verify vax status and requiring masks if just one employee isn't vax’d (or won't say if they are).
One of the most difficult aspects of life in a liberal society is tolerating the bad choices made by others, and resisting the urge to coerce better choices for them.
Even when the poor choices of some members of a liberal society adversely affect others, we typically accept only limited government restrictions on those choices, and only in proportion to the adverse effect. Think limits on where you can smoke or under what mental state you can drive. But that's not what we are dealing with here. California absolutely fails this test.
With over half the county open with masks optional, we can see this mandate isn't necessary, and it represents a major intrusion on our liberties and privacy.
There is only one way to respond to this order. Utter Rejection!
What's my vaccination status? None of your business!:
If you vax'd, it doesn't matter, you're safe. And at this point, everyone at risk has access to the vaccine.
- If you aren't vax'd, get vaccinated! But until then you've made that choice (as poor as it may be) and you'll have to accept the consequences if another un-vax'd coworker gives you the virus.
The point being you don't have to rely on others to be safe at the workspace. Just get vaccinated! Boom! Done.
We've all benefited from the fact that over half of all adults are vax'd and it would certainly add to ebbing the virus if the holdouts would join in, but this masking order isn't a form of encouragement, it's a sick form of coercion by proxy. And I bet it's a counter productive one at that.
So I say join me in rejecting the premise! In the meantime I'll see you at the office, and I'll greet you with a smile...
Anyway 0 and 2...
Update June 10th, 2021
Opps! CalOSHA must have misunderstood me: By utter rejection I meant to reject the masks entirely, not reject the rule and revert to the old 100% masks rule!
I was discussing this issue in the breakroom with co-workers yesterday (maskless btw...)
We believe the reason it's so difficult for CalOSHA to remove masks is that there was no basis for masks in the first place. You can't measure the effects masks have had this last year because they didn't work! So how can you now create a metric to show they aren't needed now?
CalOSHA is stuck having to keep masks, else admit they were never needed at all. Our schools are facing the same issue, and these government institutions would rather save face and cover their asses than let you uncover your face!
