It's Covid Panic round two and California just can't help but come up with new and innovative ways to destroy your business and livelihood! But does any of it actually work?
California has prided itself on having quite possibly the harshest non-pharmacological interventions (NPI's) in the country. School closures, business closures, outdoor only dining, mask mandates, curfews, lockdowns, you name it, we've done, and done it hard! On the other hand Florida has been derided by the media all year for being "reckless" and since September the state has had no statewide restrictions at all. No mask mandates, no business closures, nothing of the sort.
So how is it possible that right now California has more Covid hospitalizations than Florida per capita. Look it up, it's true! If NPI's actually worked how could this possibly be?
In Florida the schools are open statewide (with a remote learning option), in California the schools are nearly all closed. In CA the 49ers are homeless, while in FL the Jags, Bucs, and Fins are playing with fans in the stands (albeit at reduced capacity). CA has a statewide mask mandate that extends to your own personal residence! FL has no statewide mandate and by state law no locality can fine anyone for violating any local mandates. In CA no indoor dining in allowed and even outdoor dining is banned in some locales, while in FL dining indoors at full capacity is permitted throughout much of the state. In CA Disneyland is closed, while in FL Disney World is open?
Yet with all that CA is seeing a major surge? Why?
It is as if we are reenacting the scene from "The Dark Knight Rises" where Bane asks the major of Gotham if he feels in charge?
We are not in control! Our NPI's aren't stopping the virus and only causing collateral damage. The current wave is based on seasonality, and Florida already had a seasonal wave that hit the entire sun belt in the summer. It's far past the time that we demand our freedoms back!
Anyway 0 and 2...
